Peggy Webber appeared in only one episode
of radio Gunsmoke, and only one of tv Gunsmoke,
but there are about two hundred other radio roles that remain
for her fans to appreciate.
Peggy Webber's most delightful and outrageous performance
can be found in the Have Gun-Will Travel episode 'Bad Bert,'
where she plays British dowager Lady May.
She is given great lines, and she renders them perfectly.
Previous to this role, Webber had already
been practicing her talent for playing old lady characters
in the Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar episodes
'Mr. and Mrs. Arbuthnel Trump' and 'The Meek Memorial Matter.'
Peggy Webber and Parley Baer pull off perfect performances
in the February 17, 1950 Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar episode
about Mr. and Mrs. Arbuthnel Trump,
an old couple who intend to commit suicide
so the insurance money can be used to re-people the world via snakes
after a cataclysm.
Watch out for the in-joke when Mr. Trump
refers to his reptilian plan:
"According to the Meston theory as set down in 1903."

The Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar episode 'The Dead First Helpers'
contains a scarily real performance by Peggy Webber
as the wife and widow of a steel mill worker driven to murder.
Webber's voice glows with hard life, grief, and accusation
in this surprisingly socially conscious episode.
Check out the Romance episode 'The China Run,'
where Peggy Webber has the lead role as Jane West,
a young woman who refuses to be refused her dream
of captaining a sailing ship.
Adventure, romance, and a female character
with grit, sand, and pluck.
